Britain's disappearing Post Offices

Thu 3rd Jan 2008

Last year the Government announced their grand plan to save the Post Office from making large losses, is to shut about 2,500 more offices!! Well now they have published the list, the good news for us is that West End is not affected, but in Eastleigh Borough folk in Bishopstoke, Chandler's Ford, Hamble and Netley are not so lucky as their Offices are earmarked for closure.

Shocking update - "Moorgreen Health or Houses?" ask 'health' chiefs

Wed 19th Dec 2007

The Local Health Authorities still think that Moorgreen hospital is surplus to requirements. Over 18 months ago the Borough Council, in a motion at full council, called on the Local Health Authorities not only to reconsider their idea but also to provide enhanced services on the Moorgreen site.

Liberal Democrat Leader - Nick Clegg

Tue 18th Dec 2007

Well with the Liberal Democrat leadership election at the end of last year, instead of a Gordon Brown snap general election, we in the Liberal Democrats have a new leader. Now had our local MP Chris Huhne won this election the new leader would need no introduction, however with about just 1% more of the vote the winner was Chris's old MEP colleague Nick Clegg.

New Parish Council for West End

Fri 11th May 2007

Following the recent elections West End Parish Council now has a new mandate to serve the people of West End. For the first time in nearly 15 years there were contested elections for the Parish Council in one ward. In that ward, West End South, the people of West End elected all five of the Liberal Democrat candidates standing plus the two conservatives to fill up to two remaining slots for the ward.

Thanks to the people of West End

Sun 6th May 2007

Well the elections are over in Eastleigh for another year and after last years results when the Liberal Democrats reached a high of 34 seats out of 44 it was looking difficult to better that this year. However after the votes were counted the result was amazing and humbling that the electorate of Eastleigh increased their backing for Liberal Democrat policies. There were 14 seats contested for the Borough Council the Liberal Democrat team managed to win 13 of them and only failed to win the normally safe Labour seat of Eastleigh South by 6 votes.

Quotes of the Week

"Liberalism in Britain has lost a great champion, the Liberal Democrats, a great advocate and our public life, a great servant."

Lord Paddy Ashdown

In memory of Lord Richard Holme, who died on 5 May

"If the Tories want to claim that they are going to cut corporation tax, they have to come clean about how they are going to pay for it. Cutting the main rate of corporation tax to 25% will cost more than £5bn a year. If David Cameron is to have a hope of sounding credible he must state clearly where the money will come from. Otherwise this will be seen as yet another unfunded tax cut."
