£6,000 for Hilldene Community Centre

The Liberal Democrat Eastleigh Borough Council is always keen to support local community groups and the Hilldene Community Association is one such group. They run the Hilldene Community Centre which hosts various regular activities like Brownies, Yoga, Scrabble, Philosophy, Keep Fit, Weight Watchers, as well as being available for parties, weddings and training groups to hire.

Over the past few years the Borough Council's Hedge End, West End and Botley Local Area Committee (HEWEB LAC) have helped the Hilldene Community Association with grants for various items around the centre totalling £44,000. For example :-

  • new railings for the front
  • drainage repairs
  • new steps to the rear hall used by the children's play group
  • improved play area equipment
  • Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) access compliance
  • car park improvements

The latest grant for £6,000 given to centre is to as a final payment for acoustic panels for the main hall to dampen the echo of this Edwardian School Hall and for the hearing loop system that has been installed. Commenting on handling over the cheque for £6,000 to Hilldene Community Association Chairman Ken Morris local councillor and vice-chair of HEWEB LAC David Goodall said:-

"Hilldene Community Association perform a fantastic job running a centre for the community to help to keep community ties together and as a Council we are always willing to support groups like this one"

After the cheque presentation the councillors viewed and centre and looked at the improvements done and noticed a number of areas where further assistance will be required in the not to distant future, in particular roof and window repairs.

The other two community centres in West End, Parish Centre and Townhill Community Centre, are run by the Parish Council to enquire about those facilities contact the Parish Clerk.
