About David : The School Years
David started his schooling at Glenfield Infants in Southampton. After the first year his father's work as a policeman took the family to Winchester, where he attended Stanmore Infants. Finally the family moved again to Cowes in 1970, when his father was promoted to sergeant.
In Cowes, David went to Denmark Road Primary School, Solent Middle School and then to Cowes High school. At Solent David was in the very first 1st year and had an interesting time, as during this first year the classrooms were built for years 3 and 4.
It was whilst at Solent that politics first became of interest to him. In the 1974 general election, the school ran its own election contest. It was a close run thing between the Liberal candidate and the Scottish Nationalist candidate but the Liberal candidate won in the end. This mirrored the real election where the Isle of Wight Liberal candidate Steve Ross also won his first election.
At Cowes High School David started to learn about computers and play hockey. He finished with 6 O'levels and 2 CSEs, with good results in Maths, Physics and Design and Technology. David then decided to do an apprenticeship and, if possible, try to get an engineering degree afterwards.
